You will not regret it!!! I waited to get them and was kicking myself once they came in because they are amazing. I wore them pretty much 100% of the time for weeks, I'd recommend getting the largest size. Also, there is something called "APNO" all purpose nipple ointment. I never ended up using it but it is supposed to be incredible but has to be prescribed by a doctor, so if things get really bad, keep that in mind! It is supposed to work very quickly so you wouldn't need to use it for a long...
Amazing; wore 100% of the time for weeks; recommends largest size; regretted not buying sooner
Silverettes all the way. The silver+breastmilk healed my cracked nipples in under 6 hours.
Healed cracked nipples in under 6 hours — remarkable specific healing timeline
Honestly, silverettes were 100x better than any nipple cream I used. Also loved the Lansinoh ice packs.
100x better than any cream — extremely enthusiastic comparison
I just want to endorse them too- nipple creams can be good to have around but silver nursing cups were absolute life savers in the first few weeks! They completely prevent chafing against the bra, which nipple creams can't fully do, and they allow healing so much faster and prevent more issues in the first place. I recommend them to every single woman who is even considering breastfeeding
Absolute life savers; prevent chafing completely; heal faster than creams; recommends to everyone
Another vote for silverettes! I had no pain, cracked or dry nipples even though my baby has a bad latch. All credit to silverettes - used them from day 0 in the hospital! Express a little breast milk or colostrum into them before you put them on.
No pain/cracking despite bad latch; all credit to silverettes; used from day 0
I've been using earth mama nipple butter. But I also bought the silverettes nipple covers and my god they saved my nipples freshly postpartum. I'd freeze them and then put them on when I wasn't feeding and in between feeds. Gave my nipples a break from being touched even by my bra or shirt. Helped them heal better and faster along with nipple cream/butter
Saved nipples postpartum; freezing trick; protects from all contact; healed faster
Just use silverettes and don't worry about buying anything else! Put them on all day the first 6 weeks when you are not breastfeeding and anytime you may have a problem after you've established breastfeeding. I tried to use some creams but it was useless since silverettes took care of everything.
Took care of everything; creams were useless in comparison; only product needed for 6 weeks
Earth mama worked better for me, but really saved me was my silverettes. Seriously they are magical I HIGHLY recommend. Pricy but worth every penny.
Magical; highly recommended; saved them; worth every penny despite price
Silverettes are lifesaving and you don't need a cream/butter! You can use a little breast milk to moisturize your nipples before you put them on. I also loved the Laninosh cooling gel pads for extra comfort, especially if you put them in the fridge.
Lifesaving; eliminates need for cream; simple breast milk routine
Silver cups are expensive but I've had several open bite wounds and nothing else worked so I made the investment in them. Should have just bought them from the start. They are AMAZING.
Amazing; only thing that worked for open bite wounds; should have bought from the start
Look at silverletts! They are wonderful and I never had any issues with cracking or bleeding. Just the normal pain of BF in the beginning. Bought some for my sister in law for her fourth baby and she said this was the first time without issues. A little expensive but completely worth it. Amazon and Target sell them
Wonderful; prevented cracking/bleeding; gifted to SIL who also had success on 4th baby; worth the price
I recommend these over any nipple cream. I got them when I had my second kiddo and wish I had them with my first: The Original Silverette Silver Nursing Cups - Soothe and Protect Your Nursing Nipples -Made in Italy (Regular Pair) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00D4MWKNQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_5EF6EN4P4QK866Z0AZR4
Recommends over any cream; wished they had it for first child — regret of not having sooner
Somebody else already said it but it can't be said enough - Silverette cups. Don't need anything else like lanolin cream, just use the cups. They are a life saver / nipple saver.
Life saver/nipple saver; eliminates need for lanolin; can't be said enough
Try silver cups, you can get them on Amazon. I tried creams but didn't think they did much and the silver cups helped instantly! Truly a lifesaver in our breastfeeding journey!
Helped instantly where creams did not; lifesaver in breastfeeding journey
I did lansinoh and silver styles and worked like magic! I'd apply the cream after every feed then pop the silverettes on top then nursing bra. At the next feed if use a burp cloth or breast pad (or my shirt/nursing bra if I didn't want to grab a cloth of some kind) to wipe away most of it before baby latched. LO never minded the cream and I had read that it acts a bit like baby lip balm so I wasn't too worried about having some on the nipple I just thought it was probably nicer for her not to ha...
Worked like magic with lanolin combo; game changer for keeping cream in place and preventing chafing
I had nipple pain and some bleeding before I was even out of the hospital…one of the nurses recommended silver nipple shields. I ordered from Amazon once I got home and they've been a life saver! I think the instructions even mentioned wearing for a week prior to delivery. Also love them because lanolin balm (the standard nipple cream) smells like you're rubbing a wet dirty sheep on your boobs…
Life saver; nurse-recommended; resolved pain and bleeding; better than lanolin smell
I'll fourth the silverettes!!! They were a lifesaver the first few months of my pumping journey!!
Lifesaver for first few months of pumping journey
Silverettes worked best for me. I also had lanolin, which does help. Baby ended up really not liking lanolin taste so I'd have to completely wipe it off before he'd latch on. With cluster feeding so frequently in the beginning, this was a huge inconvenience. I just ended up using silverettes from there on out and they are better than lanolin anyway in my opinion.
Worked best; better than lanolin; no wiping needed before feeds during cluster feeding
100% silverettes, they are so helpful. I used them for months when I started and off and on for certain times when my pain was especially bad. There is another lesser known helpful tool I use a ton, I see a lot of lanolin cream suggestions but there is a one-two punch of moisture absorption and round the clock lanolin delivery and that's reusable merino wool nursing pads (incredibly soft, and you only need 2 sets) and some lanolin soap to wash them in. Wool pads absorb any moisture which causes...
Very helpful; used for months; 100% endorsement for pain management
Silver cups! I don't see them recommended often in the US, but they are very popular here in Germany. They protect your nipples from chafing, are antibacterial, and you don't need to use an additional sticky cream.
Popular in Germany; antibacterial; chafing protection; eliminates need for cream
I use silverettes, and they're most effective without cream, so I've never needed a cream
So effective that no cream is needed; eliminates need for other products
I use silverette cups when I'm not pumping. They are expensive, but I literally live in them and no longer have nipple irritation - of course having the proper flange size helps with that too :).
Lives in them; no more nipple irritation; expensive but worth it
Silverettes! Or generic silver nipple cups. Wear them 24/7 except when you're pumping or showering.
Recommends 24/7 wear; endorses both brand and generics
It doesn't matter whether you wear a shirt or not. I found the lanisoh one very sticky and preferred medela, but any lanolin based cream will stain your clothes. You don't have to wash it off before feeding baby. Personally I went without a top and just wore an unbuttoned flannel as anything touching me was painful. I preferred silverettes too. If the pain doesn't start to improve then I'd say get baby's latch looked at.
Preferred silverettes over lanolin creams; helped with pain from contact
I prefer the Lansinoh organic nipple balm over the Earth Mama because of the texture, it's more spreadable than the EM. I appreciate this when my nips are sore! It also has no noticeable scent. I also feel like the silverettes do help a ton, but I had to also get the "o-feel" silicone cushions which makes them , so they can be cost prohibitive.
Help a ton but cost prohibitive at with silicone cushions — positive with price caveat
I use the earth mama balm too for pumping lubrication and the Medela hydrogels when mine were VERY cracked from pumping. The hydrogels unfortunately worked the best for healing for me! I have silverettes too and they honestly didn't do anything for me besides pool milk on my nips and press against them in a non pleasant way
Did not work; pooled milk uncomfortably and pressed against nipples unpleasantly
Silverettes made my nipple damage worse because of the moisture so I would stay away from that if you are leaky. If you talk to a lactation consultant, then can give you a recipe for all purpose nipple ointment. Doctors in the US have gone off prescribing it at but you can get over the counter strength supplies and make your own. The recipe will I include a steroid, antibacterial and maybe antifungal depending on who you ask. This will actually help heal your nipples!
Made nipple damage worse due to moisture; warns leaky users to stay away
But invest in quality ones!! Amazon silverettes were the straw that broke the camels back in my breast feeding journey! There were many many factors including a lip and tongue tie, small baby, and just normal first time struggles but it was doable until I pulled those suckers out 🥲 I had a reaction and after that it was just a downward cascade that made it impossible to latch baby. I'm a L&D nurse and I feel so stupid, like I should have known better. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard w...
Had reaction to Amazon silverettes that ended breastfeeding; warns to invest in quality ones
I hated the silverettes. They somehow made my nipples burn and they would stay swollen.
Hated them; caused burning and swelling — strongly negative reaction
