All Purpose Nipple Ointment (APNO) (or sometimes called Canadian Nipple Cream) saved breastfeeding for me. I was ready to call it quits 3 weeks in, but my lactation consultant suggest I ask my midwife for an APNO prescription. If you're in the US, APNO is an Rx, but my midwife called it into a pharmacy for me without an appt; I just messaged her in our portal and asked for it. If you have cracks or bleeding, or long term burning, get your OB to write you a prescription for Jack Newman's cream. It literally saved my nips!
Literally saved nips; recommends for cracks, bleeding, or burning
I use APNO (Newman's), it works amazingly. I had sores and even some bleeding caused by latching issues, they healed within 2-3 after I started application. They can also help avoid thrush
Works amazingly; healed sores and bleeding in 2-3 days; helps avoid thrush
Gotta recommend the queen of nipple ointments, APNO, which is prescription only. It was a lifesaver when everything was cracked and bleeding 🥲
Queen of nipple ointments; lifesaver for cracked and bleeding nipples
Around that time, the only thing that helped me was prescription all purpose nipple cream. The APNO was the only thing that allowed my nipples to heal and get to a point where I could just use lanolin. I tried the earth mama nipple cream and that just didn't cut it for me, I needed the lanolin.
Only thing that allowed healing; bridge to using OTC products; other creams insufficient
I use the lansinoh hydrogel soothie patches, they're quite nice for soreness. My LC recommended cutting parchment paper into circles and putting those over as they will stop the nipple from sticking to the pads, it's a neat and handy little trick that also helps to keep the balm moisturizing the area. I haven't found a balm that works that well and I've tried a few different kinds but the APNO perscription cream works the best for me.
Works the best of all balms tried; prescription cream outperforms OTC options
