Same here. The Hatch totally rescued us when my 2 year old started refusing naps. Taught her purple light means sleep or rest (can look at books in bed) and green light means time to come downstairs. We have twins who nap in different rooms each with a Hatch and both stay totally quiet until green light comes on. The Hatch can take all my money if it keeps my kids sleeping. 😂
Enthusiastic. Specific outcome: solved nap refusal for 2-year-old using color system (purple=rest, green=get up). Owns two for twins, both respond to the light cues.
I think the Hatch is a huge part of how easy my toddlers are with bedtime and wake up time, to the point that I won't consider replacing/upgrading the Hatch unless the next machine also has schedules and can be turned on/off from my phone. We've been using the scheduled programs feature since our oldest was about 6 months old, at least for bedtime. The rise to wake function has been a thing since around the same time. If she woke up long before the Hatch changed to the rise to wake program, I ...
Extremely detailed positive review. Scheduled programs since 6 months: 11:45am nap signal, 3pm auto-wake. Rise-to-wake helped both kids transition to big beds seamlessly. Kids self-regulate bedtime prep when sound starts. Won't switch to anything without these features.
Our hatch is AMAZING. It's the only reason my husband and I get to sleep until 8. We have the light timer on for mornings and naps and have implemented that since very early. My son knows he can't get up until the light turns green. It's great Not to mention the nightlight and white noise are also very important functions for us
Enthusiastic. Specific outcome: enables parents to sleep until 8am. Green light timer teaches son to stay in bed. Uses nightlight + white noise daily.
Love ours. We bought two. One for baby and one for me to use to drown out my SO's snoring. It was also really nice to have for late night nursing sessions since the light is pretty dim. I've also gifted a new mom one. 10/10 would buy again.
Enthusiastic: bought two, gifted one. Specific uses: drowns out partner snoring, dim light perfect for late-night nursing. 10/10 rating.
We held off on the hatch for so long. We don't use any white noise so I thought why bother. Then our toddler started waking up early every day this summer. My husband broke down and bought the hatch. She now yells green light when it's time to get up and know the purple light with bird noises means it's time to clean up for the night. Once the purple light turns off it's time for bed. It has been a game changer for both our nighttime routine and later morning wakes.
Game changer. Specific outcome: solved early morning waking. Toddler learned green=wake, purple+birds=cleanup, purple off=bed. Transformed nighttime routine.
The hatch is worth every Penny. You control it from your phone so if there's something going on like fireworks you can turn it up and then turn it back down when they're over without going in there. We also change it to bird sounds to wake her up in the morning and then when she's a little older we will use the colored lights to signal when it's okay to get out of bed.
Worth every penny. Specific use cases: remote volume boost for fireworks without entering room, bird sounds as gentle morning alarm. Plans to use colored lights for toddler bed. 14 upvotes.
I use all the hatch products. I recommend a portable sound machine and a stationary one. Portable is great for when you are walking around the house rocking to sleep or in the day. I love my hatch mini. White noise mimics whooshing sounds baby has heard in the womb for months. My LO loves the ocean sound.
Uses multiple Hatch products daily. Specific detail: baby loves ocean sound, uses portable for rocking and stationary for room.
I recently had to travel for Christmas to see my husband's family and I considered packing mine but left it behind. I missed it so much. I missed it every day for a week. So yes it is worth it. I love mine. It is a really good sleep prop and I actually want to keep mine in my room and get her a new one for her room lol. It's not just for babies.
Loves it so much they missed it during a week of travel. Wants to keep it for themselves and buy baby a new one. Emphasizes it's not just for babies.
My hatch hasn't stopped running in six months lol. I have it set up to automatically play lights and nature sounds during the day, then transition to lullabies 20 minutes before bedtime, then dim red light and white noise at 7:15. Never even have to touch it it just does it's own thing and hasn't failed us yet!
Very specific automated schedule: daytime lights+nature sounds → lullabies 20 min before bed → dim red+white noise at 7:15pm. Six months running continuously without touch.
Hatch because of the light feature - taught my son to stay in bed til the light changes color!
Enthusiastic about specific feature: color-changing light trained toddler to stay in bed. High community agreement (13 upvotes).
I love my hatch. It works well and it as your baby gets older and gets into a big girl/boy bed the changing light helps them stay in bed. We do red for sleep time and green for when they can get out of bed. I prefer the look to the gro light. I find the grow light very baby looking. The hatch light I think can grow with the baby. It also travels well and remembers the schedule after you unplug it and plug it back in. We bring ours to the cottage every weekend.
Loves it. Specific positives: red/green color system for toddler bed, aesthetically superior to Gro light, grows with baby, remembers schedule after unplugging, travels to cottage weekly.
the hatch rest has been awesome because once they're in a real bed and out of the crib you can use it as an "ok to wake" clock. the different colored lights to teach them when it's okay to come out of their room. Ex we use "red In bed" and "blue up to you"
Awesome specifically for toddler bed transition. Color system: 'red in bed' and 'blue up to you' teaches boundaries. Names Hatch Rest explicitly.
We still use it with my 2.5 year old and bought another for the next baby (34 weeks!!). It's honestly awesome at drowning out noise from around the house and the night light and lullabies are so nice when getting ready to sleep and settling down.
Still using at 2.5 years, bought a second for next baby. Specific uses: drowns out household noise, nightlight and lullabies for settling routine.
I use the hatch every day. I don't know if it's more for me, or for her, but I love that thing. It signals bedtime. It helps block out my around-the-house noises when she goes down for her day time naps. It's soothing. I think babies thrive on and enjoy consistency and repetition (predictability = safe) but that might all be in my head. I love ours.
Daily use, loves it. Specific functions: signals bedtime routine, blocks household noise during daytime naps.
We have a hatch for our daughter and love it. Can control either from the phone via Bluetooth or by touching it, we now leave The light on a very dim red at night so she can see if she wants to move around (in a toddler bed). It has a variety of sounds, we used the simple white noise for ages but have now changed to the ocean sound. I got something similar but a bit cheaper for the next one but kind of regret it, the sound quality isn't as nice and I don't really like the app so wish I'd gotten ...
Loves it, regrets not buying a second. Specific: Bluetooth+touch control, dim red light for toddler bed mobility, evolved from white noise to ocean sound. Better sound quality than cheaper alternatives.
We love our hatch machine for babies room. It's a godsend when he won't take a nap. We have it set to lullaby but you can customize it and choose programs and automate it all from your phone with the app. In a pinch we use our homepod in our room
Loves it, calls it 'godsend' for naps. Specific features mentioned: lullaby setting, customizable programs, phone app automation.
Exact same sentiments here. I work in cybersecurity and there are no vulns. We use it for the nightlight and sound machine (and the clock is nice too). Not sure how I would have made it through July 4th without the hatch. My neighborhood is allowed fireworks and she would NOT have been able to sleep through the night without the hatch. My house is also old and creaky and the hatch drowns out us walking around upstairs. We don't pay any subscription at all for it.
Positive with specific use cases: drowns out fireworks on July 4th, masks creaky house sounds from upstairs. Professional cybersecurity assessment of no vulnerabilities. No subscription needed.
Get the hatch and play with the settings a lot until you find what works best. It won't make my baby sleep if he is hungry/sick/teething etc. but the rain setting set high (still within decibel limits before anyone comes for me) lets him sleep 12+ hours. I've tried lowering it just 5 points and he'll wake after 3-4 hours.
Specific data-driven experience: rain setting at high volume enables 12+ hour sleep. Lowering by just 5 points = wakes after 3-4 hours. Demonstrates volume matters and Hatch delivers.
I play piano and sing, and I prefer using a mic (being loud). The sound machine means I can practice after she goes down. I have programmed her hatch to taper down her rain sound volume every minute starting at a certain hour, then kicking in a faint bird chirp. It wakes her gently, no grumps. its nice.
Specific positive detail about programming capabilities: tapering rain volume then gentle bird chirp wake-up. Uses it to enable piano practice while baby sleeps.
I second the hatch. Red light, thunderstorm, 15-30 volume depending on location of baby in relation to the device.
Positive endorsement with specific settings used: red light, thunderstorm sound, volume range 15-30 adjusted by baby's distance from device.
I second the Hatch Rest. We've been using ours for almost three years and never had an issue.
Three years of reliable daily use with zero issues. Demonstrates long-term durability.
Spring for one of the hatch ones. I have an older rest+ with no subscription. Yes it's not a cheap option but having the ability to remotely turn the unit on and the little dude fall back asleep because "yellow light and river sounds means sleep" is pretty sweet. For travel on the cheap I just use an old iPhone with the built in background sounds.
Owns older Rest+ without subscription. Specific positive: remote control to turn on sleep cue (yellow light + river sounds) that puts toddler back to sleep. Acknowledges high price.
Yep! There are a decent amount of free features IMO plus you can set a routine and control stuff from your phone. Our bedtime routine is a 13 minute "moon story" (there are like 9 free ones) then 8 hours of white noise.
Positive about free features. Specific routine: 13-minute moon story (9 free options) followed by 8 hours of white noise. Phone control for routines.
We've been using the hatch for the last 8-9months and have been quite happy with it. We also have some cheaper mobile white noise machines which are fine for on-the-go, but we like the hatch for home use.
Happy after 8-9 months of use. Specific detail: prefers Hatch for home use, cheaper portables for travel. High community agreement (21 upvotes).
I like my hatch sound machine, I set it on ocean noises. It helps drown out my husbands snoring and my other kids so they don't wake the youngest.
Positive experience with specific use case (ocean noises setting, drowns out husband's snoring and other kids) but brief
I actually liked the Hatch. The ability to change the volume, and what color showing, preset programs - super helpful! Especially as they get to an age where they are moving to a toddler bed etc. That being said, I have another sound machine that does not run on WiFi and is the most reliable when it comes to travelling. As we have family we have to fly out to see, we take that sound machine with us since it doesn't need to connect to WiFi - I can just plug it in, press a button and it works!
Positive overall: likes volume control, color options, preset programs, especially for toddler bed transition. But notes WiFi dependency is a limitation for travel — uses a simpler machine when flying.
I have the hatch that came before it was a subscription and we use it daily. My kid likes to sleep with the light blue at 9% exactly and with tv status at 25% also exactly. When my next kid was born we got a hatch without realizing that it changed. We only use that for light on or light off with static sound for sleep because it's so much harder to change settings. We didn't both with the subscription nevertheless.
Owns two Hatches (old and new model). Very specific settings: blue light at 9%, TV static at 25%. Notes newer model is harder to use — only uses basic features on it. Daily use without subscription.
We've tried a lot and our current favorite is dreamegg. It has a battery backup for trips and powerloss. Also has multiple noises, and we like the deeper brown noise. We also like lectrofan, but they break easily. We love the Hatch for lighting because it's great for keeping a low light atmosphere, we use red and can attest that it does not keep anyone awake. But the white noise is very high pitched and none of us sleep well with a higher pitch like white or pink noise.
Mixed: loves Hatch for red nightlight but finds white noise too high-pitched for sleep. Prefers Dreamegg for actual sound. Balanced positive (lighting) and negative (sound quality).
We use it daily, for 11.5 months now. Sometimes I feel like the "white noise" is playing music perhaps from other neighboring signals, like I can hear melodies, singing, full songs sometimes... But it may be in my head! My wife never hears it. Maybe it's the wyze baby monitor being too close to the hatch, I dunno. But some nights I literally hear full blown songs (not recognizable artists, just sort of... Music. Anyone else?) But yea, we bring it traveling it's great. I hate the user interf...
Mixed after 11.5 months daily use. Positives: travels well, basics work great. Negatives: hates UI, dislikes subscription push. Odd interference issue with baby monitor.
My husband hates the Hatch because of this. I get it though, if it's a dark room and your baby is sleeping and you need to change the sound or light it's impossible. It relies too heavily on the UX on your phone vs. real tactile buttons. With that said, I love the green/red light features. It keeps my toddler in his room.
Mixed household opinion. Specific negative: impossible to adjust in dark room without phone, lacks tactile buttons. Specific positive: green/red light keeps toddler in room. Balanced.
I'm a big fan of the ones with actual mechanical fans inside. Got one for $25 on Amazon and we've never had any issues in 2.5 years. It's dead simple. I bought a Hatch sleep to get the color-changing light for my toddler, and I've had a lot more issues with it just because it has a lot more features. We accidentally created an extra program that shut off the nighttime sleep routine at 11pm. And the Bluetooth connection is pretty flaky (I know there's a wifi option too though).
Mixed: bought Hatch for color-changing toddler light but had more issues due to complexity. Specific problems: accidentally created a program that killed sleep routine at 11pm, flaky Bluetooth. Prefers simple fan-based machines.
FTM to a 6m old and I could not relate to this more if I could. Here to find answers for ourselves since wanting to find a portable option for vacations/walks outside etc. we have the hatch too and it's just being used as a clock while our yoga sleep nod ($20, no app, no paywalls) is her favorite. There is one sound within the water setting that sounds like pouring rain and she is instantly soothed. I am wanting a portable that has the same or similar sound and features.
Owns Hatch but only uses it as a clock — prefers the $20 Yogasleep Nod for actual sound. Implies Hatch is overpriced for what they use it for.
Seconding Yogasleep! So simple. We've used it for 2 years (with lots of travel) have had 0 issues. We also have the Hatch but don't use it for sleep/white noise. I have a fear our WiFi would go out at night or something and it would get turned off. I've had some connectivity issues with it - it doesn't always relay from the app.
Owns Hatch but doesn't trust it for sleep due to WiFi dependency — fears it would turn off during outage. Has experienced connectivity issues where app commands don't relay. Prefers Yogasleep for reliability.
Ok. Someone help me. I actually have one (was given it as a non-registry gift), and I don't get the hype at all!! We have 2 small cheap portable sound machines and we are obsessed with those. I didn't like the sound of the hatch as much. And I don't understand the use for the lights until they're older.
Doesn't get the hype. Specific negatives: doesn't like the sound quality compared to cheap portables, light features useless for baby stage. Prefers simple alternatives.
It's fine but the app SUCKS. It's so glitchy and I've had so many problems with our regular and mini Hatch disconnecting/needing to be reset. The worst is trying to put baby down and needing to adjust the volume or something and the app won't sync/loses connection. If it worked like it's supposed to, the routine settings and light would be great. The mini is trash particularly but I've wanted to go office space on both of ours.
Mostly negative. Specific issues: glitchy app, frequent disconnections requiring reset, loses connection when adjusting volume at critical moments. Acknowledges routine/light features would be great if reliable.
Honestly the fan I need to sleep (for coolness and white noise) did the trick just as good as the hatch rest 🤣 I wouldn't have wasted the money if I could do it again!
Owns Hatch Rest but considers it a waste of money — a regular fan works just as well. Buyer's remorse.
I don't like the hatch either! I was so disappointed because it is like the #1 recommended baby item. Aside from disliking the sounds, I keep managing to accidentally turn on super bright blue lights when I want to turn it off. It's not intuitive. I use the dohm and love it. I think it gets pretty loud so I never have it at full volume (am also a worrier about hearing loss). I work in mental health and also use it outside my door for therapy sessions. It's the best sound machine out there in m...
Disappointed — #1 recommended item didn't live up. Specific negatives: dislikes the sounds, accidentally triggers bright blue lights when trying to turn off, not intuitive. Switched to Dohm.
Yup and not just the physical product - the app is terrrrible. I've used it for 2.5 years across multiple phones and it takes so long to connect each time, sometimes it doesn't even work or you can't connect, sometimes it just dies and comes back to life a few days later. Crazy bad.
Strong negative about app reliability over 2.5 years: slow to connect, sometimes doesn't work, randomly dies and revives days later. Calls it 'crazy bad'.
We have the hatch too and the sounds are awful. I cannot understand why it's so popular. We also have the dohm, but I ended up using it for me because it is not loud enough for the baby's room in my opinion. We landed on the lectrofan for the baby's room. Dohm has the best sound, but I just don't think it's loud enough to block out the sounds of the house.
Owns Hatch, Dohm, and LectroFan. Specific negative for Hatch: sounds are 'awful', doesn't understand popularity. Chose LectroFan over both for baby's room.
I actually hated it. The app is a pain to use and it's way over complicated to do simple things. And I like technology. Ended up switching to a simple on/off yoga sleep machine and life is much better
Hated it despite being tech-friendly. Specific: app is painful, over-complicated for simple tasks. Switched to simple Yogasleep and life improved. Strong negative signal.
We had the hatch and I hated it. It would always throw an error during set up. Their support was helpful but my pregnancy rage couldn't take it anymore. We returned it and got the MomCozy dupe and I love it. It was way easier to set up and has similar features. I also like the wood grain look better than the hatch.
Hated it and returned it. Specific issue: constant setup errors. Support was helpful but not enough. Switched to MomCozy which was easier to set up.
Not at all. We were gifted one and even without I couldn't be bothered to download another app, make another account, share my location with the app just to use a basic item. We used it as a nightlight for a while without the app but we couldn't even get the clock to appear without the app. We bought a $20 sound machine/clock/nightlight and used that but we barely even used that. Once we moved baby into her own room at 6 months we got a CD player and play a lullaby CD on loop instead of white no...
Strongly negative. Specific complaints: requires app download, account creation, and location sharing for basic functionality. Clock feature locked behind app. Considers it overrated. Replaced with $20 alternative then CD player.
Terrible. It works fine when it works but if often doesn't. Son will be 3 in the fall and it hardly works at all anymore. The light turns off after 5 seconds and the noise doesn't work at all. Some channels stopped working entirely first. I've regretted having it on our registry since it first arrived. My husband is very tech savvy and works in tech and he hasn't been able to resolve the several issues the device has had. I strongly recommend not getting it and saving the money since it's severe...
Strongly negative. After ~3 years: light turns off after 5 seconds, noise stopped working, channels failed. Tech-savvy husband couldn't fix. Regrets purchase, says overpriced.
I almost launched ours into the stratosphere last night. My wife went to a concert so it was just me, the toddler and the newborn, nothing I can't handle. But what I can't deal with is learning that my wife can't turn on the sleep program remotely and I have to set this thing up to work with my phone *while holding a cranky screaming baby*. It took like ten minutes and several tries to get this thing going, and then my screen was pummeled with all these "helpful" pop ups when I just wanted to t...
Strongly negative UX experience. Specific issues: can't share device control between phones easily, 10-minute setup while holding baby, intrusive pop-ups, accidentally subscribed to paid tier due to dark pattern UI.
