I saw Happy Baby mentioned on this subreddit and got interested after trying slings, wovens, baby ktan, and the ergo original. I disliked them all; either they were too complicated or baby got too hot which made it miserable for the both of us. I didn't want to spend full price on a happy baby before I could try it so I went on the happy baby B/S/T (buy sell trade) group on Facebook (where the owners actually post updates) and I bought a used one locally for about $50 off. The group is obsessed ...
'One of my best baby purchases', daily use, 'MUCH cooler' than alternatives, recommends to friends — strong endorsement after trying multiple competitors
I am an overweight, petite mom. I also sweat like crazy in the Midwest with same temps. Also has a 2 year old to chase after so we weren't really ever able to escape the heat much. I absolutely loved my Happy Baby carrier. It's not bulky like I felt the Lilliebaby was and it was as cool as wearing a small person could be.
'Absolutely loved', specific body type context (overweight petite), Midwest heat, comparison to Lillebaby as bulkier — enthusiastic despite being a heavy sweater
I found Happy Baby because I was searching for a Florida summer friendly baby carrier. We've had the OG cider since 2018 with our first and soon all 3 babies will have been worn in it.
Owned since 2018, used through 3 children in Florida summers — exceptional longevity and repeated use demonstrates strong satisfaction
I really like my Happy Baby Carrier. It's linen so it's breathable and it can be used from newborn to 45 pounds.
Enthusiastic ('really like'), cites linen breathability and wide weight range as specific positives, no caveats
Love my Happy Baby carrier. It is linen and way less bulky than others I have tried.
'Love', cites linen material and 'way less bulky' compared to other carriers tried — enthusiastic with specific comparative advantage
The happy baby revolution is a bit more bulky because the padding for forward facing is more substantial in the leg area. The Happy baby Original will be less bulky. They also have the Happy Baby Versa which can be worn cross back. Hope&Plum has a ssc that is worn cross back and is a hemp blend fabric. It doesn't fit baby properly until 4 or 6 months (check website to confirm). I'm very petite like you, and my go to is the Happy Baby Original, even with the H back. I've tried the versa and wo...
'My go to' as a petite person, distinguishes Original as less bulky than Revolution, tried multiple HB models — knowledgeable preference for the OG specifically
I was going to suggest happy baby. I live in Las Vegas and it's good for hot weather. I have tried a lot of carriers and this is one of my faves. It's super small for folding up and traveling as well.
'One of my faves' after trying many carriers, Las Vegas heat context, cites compact folding for travel — strong preference with specific practical advantage
The Happy Baby website has a link to their official BST Facebook page. It can get a little cult-y feeling in there, but it's reliable for finding used carriers. People can get a little nutty about the terminology and patterns, and it can be intimidating 😅 For the cheaper options, search "play condition" for ones that have superficial stains/tears but are still structurally sound. I had the same complaint as you about my Omni 360, and I ended up buying a barely-used linen/cotton blend OG from t...
'Super happy with it', less bulky than Ergo Omni 360, linen more breathable than polyester mesh — positive switch from Ergo, notes still sweating but 'feels better'
Babywearing is warm, especially when you're wearing them on your front. That said, a carrier with a thick waistband like artipoppe or wildbird is not going to help. I find apron style carriers like the Integra (particularly the solar) and Happy Baby are cooler than anything with a waterfall waist band. Hemp/cotton/linen blends in the lightest weave possible is the coolest, but those are typically only available in woven wraps or ring slings
Finds Happy Baby's apron style 'cooler than anything with a waterfall waist band' — specific structural advantage over Artipoppe/Wildbird, positive comparative recommendation
Where in the Deep South are you? I have a lot of carriers and wouldn't mind letting you try them if you were not crazy far but I'm near the Georgia /Alabama state line. My happy baby was great for the summer. It's not as soft as the lark but it's cute and I didn't feel hot. I haven't been able to try out the lark for summer since it hasn't been around long but I've worn it on a pretty warm day at the Birmingham zoo with no problems. I have other carriers as well because I lack self control. I a...
'Great for the summer', 'didn't feel hot' in Deep South heat, but notes 'not as soft as the lark' — positive with minor comparative caveat
Can you get happy baby in Canada ? They're linen and I wear one in Florida I still get sweaty but its my fave
'My fave' despite still getting sweaty in Florida — strong personal preference with honest caveat about heat
Florida here we use the happy baby linen, we still sweat bc there's no escaping it but it's bareable for us we do walks and the beach.
Uses it in Florida heat for walks and beach, acknowledges sweating is unavoidable but 'bareable' — positive overall with realistic caveat about heat
I have the Happy Baby and it was not supportive enough for me. I can only wear for about 45 minutes before my back starts hurting. Conversely, I can wear the Ergobaby Omni 360 for hours on end indoors or outside without pain, especially in a back carry. My almost 20lb baby feels like nothing. And when you fold it down and use the waist belt to cinch it down, it gets pretty small. I love it, and it's our go-to for long days and hiking. I'm in Tx and it's fairly cool, but if I had it over again, I...
'Not supportive enough', 45-minute wear limit before back pain, only H-strap config, switched to Ergo Omni 360 as everyday choice — specific structural complaints
I personally did not find the happy baby to be comfortable. No matter what adjustments I did the straps just dug into my shoulders. The panel was always way loose around my baby's neck. It's hard to explain, I know that the carrier isn't supposed to be tight there but it just seemed to provide zero support. I'm pretty active while babywearing so this was a big issue for me. I find the integra to be cooler in the summer and love that it is waterproof and easy to wipe off if it gets dirty.
'Did not find it comfortable', straps dug into shoulders, panel too loose, 'zero support' — multiple specific structural complaints, switched to Integra
