
I was a school nurse for 5 years—I HATE forehead thermometers. They're about as accurate as using the back of your hand on their forehead. Vicks makes a really good rectal thermometer that's very easy to use. I know a lot of parents feel uncomfortable doing rectal temps, but the Vicks one is very short, easy to use, and FAST.

I have a Vicks one that reads temp in 8 seconds I think! I do use it rectally, the thought made me nervous at first but it truly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Although I'm very much looking forward to the day he can hold a thermometer in his mouth 😂

If she feels warm, I use the temporal thermometer. If it's elevated above normal, I'll get out the underarm thermometer. She doesn't like it, but we got one that is very fast, maybe 10 seconds. It's the Vicks brand one. Our pediatrician says that it's really not that important that we know the exact temperature. We don't give meds unless she's feeling poorly.
