It's expensive but I got the Owlet Cam 2 as part of a package with the Owlet Smart Sock 2. It's honestly amazing the entire package. The camera detects if the room temperature and humidity etc is comfortable for baby. It notifies you if baby is crying, moving etc and works alongside the smart sock which monitors baby's oxygen level and heart rate. The alarm sets off if baby's heart or oxygen drops or increases beyond a certain amount. I got the package for around £200 but it's been worth every p...
"honestly amazing", "worth every penny", details full feature set: room temp/humidity, cry/movement detection, O2/heart rate monitoring with alarms. ~£200 for sock + cam package. Peace and security.
We've been happy with Owlet. It's pricey, and you do sometimes get false alarms (and it's loud!) but we found the BPM monitoring quite a helpful tool. We could see when she was starting to wake, or if she was poorly we'd know as her rates would be slightly elevated. She outgrew the sock monitor about 16mo, but we still use the camera and app. The app does what it says on the tin. Can be put onto anyone's phone so if you need grandma to babysit you'd not have to leave your phone behind. The came...
"happy with Owlet" but multiple caveats: pricey, false alarms (loud), sock outgrown at 16mo, WiFi dependency issues, static camera. Recommends non-WiFi backup. BPM monitoring was helpful for illness detection. Mixed positive.
I have a fancy wifi one (owlet) and a vtech £50 one, the kind with a separate sceeen. Much prefer the vtech.
Owns both Owlet and VTech, "Much prefer the vtech" — direct comparison where the budget option wins over the premium product. Negative for Owlet by comparison.
Baby monitor hacking is extremely rare, and usually only happens because of insecure network settings on WiFi monitors. Whether or not you need a monitor at all is completely dependent on you, your baby and your home. I allowed my baby to nap independently from birth while I pottered around, and because my home is 200 years old the walls are solid brick so I wouldn't be able to hear very well if he woke or cried so a monitor was useful. It also comes in handy now at 4 months as we're currently...
"The owlet sock though, I would say is not necessary and causes more anxiety than it's worth" — direct negative assessment of the sock's value proposition. From an experienced parent of two who uses regular monitors successfully.
Honestly we brought the owlet monitor and sock when I was still pregnant thinking the tech would be great, and help with any anxiety around our baby's sleep.... It took me 2 weeks post partum before I even remembered about the owlet sock as I was just chill about his sleep in the end...then with the monitor when I started using it was a pain as I had to use the app on my phone and my husband was worried about it being hacked all the time So I decided to sell them and get the baby sense monito...
Bought Owlet sock + monitor pre-birth, sold both. App-only monitor was "a pain", husband worried about hacking, sock unnecessary in practice. Replaced with Babysense which was "Best purchase ever". Buyer's remorse.
