My sister hit that exact same wall around 20 weeks, hips aching, tossing and turning, you name it, she couldn't get comfy no matter what. She didn't want a giant wraparound pillow either, so obviously I made it my life's mission to find her a comfy pillow. We tested out a bunch and realized that what really helped was trying out a c-shaped pillow instead of the massive U ones, it gave her support for the bump, hips, and back without eating half the bed lmao. There are a bunch of options you could look into like pharmedoc, boppy, and snoogle, they're all great. but since ur at 20 weeks, pharmedoc might suit you better, it's not too bulky and super easy to shift around with at night (won't fight you every time you try to roll over lol) Also try placing a regular pillow between your knees too, sometimes a bit of extra alignment helps more than you'd think. Stretching before bed, warm compresses, even short walks during the day (if you're up for it) made a big difference for my sister too. It's all trial and error tbh but you'll get there.
For a pregnancy pillow, the PharMeDoc is a great choice, particularly for its C-shaped design that supports the back, hips, knees, neck, and head. It's known for its firmness and durability, making it ideal for both pregnancy and postpartum use. When selecting a pregnancy pillow, consider factors such as material, firmness, size, shape, and whether it has a removable and washable cover for ease of cleaning. If you're looking for a reliable option and the PharMeDoc is available, it's highly recommended for its supportive design and quality.
Girl have you joined r/BabyBumps? Because you need to if you haven't already. This sub has helped me SO MUCH. Let me bestow upon u the knowledge First, decide the SHAPE. Yes pregnancy pillows come in shapes and it's weirdly a big decision \> U shape pillows wrap around both sides of your body. They're amazing if you want full back and belly support at once or if you tend to flip from side to side all night. BUT they take up a lot of bed space and can feel a little bulky if you're someone who shifts around a lot. \> C shape pillows curve under your head, between your legs and under the belly/back depending on how you position it. You only get support on one side at a time but they're much easier to maneuver especially if you're a side sleeper who doesn't fully switch sides at night. From what you've written, I really think C shape will suit you better. It gives belly + back support without boxing you in and it's easier to manage in bed. I highly recommend the [Pharmedoc's C shape pillow](https://nelsonfoto.com/dp-B0C83K95WQ0). It's been amazing. The jersey fabric is super soft and the shape is firm enough to support but still comfy to snuggle into. You'll wake up without lower back pain! It also doubles as the perfect couch cuddle buddy during Netflix hours lol
My hubby got me the u shape pharmedoc and it's freaking amazing!
I had a lot of pain throughout my pregnancy, but especially second trimester. During these 9 months I've amassed a lot of pillows:Bbhugme, pharmedoc, cool max wedge, and several regular bed pillows of varying levels of fluffiness. Out of all the pillow purchases bbhugme has gotten the most consistent use and is the most versatile. Pros: decent amount of control over thickness. Ability to bend. Very versatile- location of my pain has changed but I can change how I use it.. Able to use as back support during the day and leg/hip at night. Pretty comfortable pillow for side sleeping. Up until like a month ago I could use it simultaneously as hip support, belly wedge, and pillow. Cons: expense, obviously. Sleeps hot. Large, but not as large as other pillows like the pharmedoc. Difficult to put liner back on after washing. Relatedly, why is the line so dang long??? Would definetly buy again. The only other pillow I'd buy again was some weird thin regular one I bought at bed bath and beyond that I roll up and use as back support for my recliner.
The full wordy Amazon product name is : Pharmedoc Pregnancy Pillows, U-Shape Full Body Pillow – Jersey Cover Grey – Pregnancy Pillows for Sleeping – Body Pillows for Adults, Maternity Pillow and Pregnancy Must Haves. I love it.
I'm not pregnant but pregnancy pillows are amaziinnngggg. It's like having a permanent cuddler that can also alleviate back pain whether you're pregnant or not. Buy one, whoever's thinking about it. I actually had kind of the opposite experience with Pharmedoc. But I'm a big fan of their [C shape version](https://nelsonfoto.com/dp-B0C83K95WQ), not the U. I think the switch made a big difference. I toss and turn a lot and the U shape felt too boxed in. The C shape gives you belly support and something to hug without fully wrapping around me, which makes it way easier to shift positions. I also didn't have the same arm trapping feeling you mentioned, possibly because of the shape difference? Would definitely say it's worth a try for anyone who found U shapes claustrophobic but still wants full body support. Also a great new mom gift if you're putting together ideas for friends!!
I have both baby bub and a pharmedoc c-shaped body pillow. I've been sleeping with the pharmedoc over the last 3 weeks or so and honestly love it but not necessarily for pregnancy reasons lol. It's just nice to cuddle with a big, soft pillow, and having something between my knees for spine alignment. It doesn't always keep me from rolling on my back though so I wake up intermittently at night. The baby bub I didn't think was very comfortable, but now that my bump is bigger I might give it another shot.
I got a Pharmedoc at like 15 weeks and it's my best friend. I do get hot sometimes (but that happened before I had it too. I love having the support for my arms and between legs. No back problems since I started using it — and I have had back problems for 20 years! Love that I can roll over without moving the pillow and it still works.
I can't recommend the Eli & Elm Pregnancy Body Pillow enough. I couldn't stand those larger Pharmedoc ones. It was a huge pain getting in and out of bed and it takes up half the bed! I've gone through atleast 5 pregnancy/body pillows and a lot of them didn't have a lot of head support. I think this pillow has a full queen size pillow attached to it. I've noticed a lot of pregnancy pillows neglect the head portion, so this was a huge selling point for me.
I tried a Pharmedoc, newton baby, queen rose, snoogle, and two coop home goods maternity pillows, as well as the babybub. Not a single one worked for me and I felt like I was losing my mind. I felt trapped in the u shaped, hated how flat the snoogle was, and found the babybub frustrating to use in the middle of the night after waking up to pee and get resettled. This is very privileged — but I caved and got the bbhugme and I'm finally comfortable. It was stipid expensive but the ability to customize the firmness and use it how I pleased helped a lot. I love that it's light enough to still cuddle my husband while also supporting my belly and knee and ankle — waking up without hip pain that first night made me cry. All of this to say, sometimes it's trial and error. Maybe try a few different flat pillows in different positions to see where you are specifically needing or wanting support and making a purchase based on that?
Ok, I went through a lot of pregnancy pillows before I found "the one" but everyone is different. I'd ask for her input here because sleep and comfort is sacred - helping her do the research based on her needs is a lot more valuable than surprising her with one she might not jive with. Does she sleep hot? Does she roll around a lot or have REstless leg syndrome & need to get up a lot? Is she having trouble getting up? Does she need more back, belly or leg support? Does she want more firm or more flexible. Is she normally a side sleeper or just getting used to it? Does she already sleep with a lot of pillows or just one? I love my Frida Mom Adjustable because I hate bulk in bed & need to be able to shift it quickly - it's not perfect but it's the best one for me at 33 weeks. I use my Boppy wedge sometimes too when I need support but find it annoying due to bulk/excess/too many parts. I hated my PharmEDoc & I borrowed my friends Yana and realized I hated how heavy and bulky they were - I'm not a U or C shaped human. I slept with the Boppy wedge & a yoga bolster early on and found it to be enough while I continued my search. I found the wedge to get more uncomfortable as my belly grew and it felt more like pressure than support. I also sleep like an asshole sometimes. I made my decision based on where I needed the most support, how light weight and moveable it was & how firm it was ( I also tried a random one from Amazon that was basically a long cotton ball from hell.)
I don't like that one, tried it in the store. I went for pharmedoc but can't remember exact model. Been loving it so much, so I would definitely recommend it.
